The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche. In Roche's Pharma Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

The Computational Sciences Centre of Excellence (CS CoE) is a global organization enabling Roche’s Research and Early Development units to develop novel therapeutics that will have an impact on patient lives. Within the CS CoE, the Computational Biology and Medicine (CBM) department focuses on furthering our understanding of disease pathogenesis, patient populations, and target biology by having access to the largest Pharma R&D datasets in the world. In partnership with our scientists across pRED, we create better medicines by augmenting every part of R&D through our data-driven culture.

The Opportunity

  • Evaluate Clinical-Digital Mapping to determine how internal signal processing parameters such as intensity thresholds and postural transitions affect the association with clinical anchors like Weight, BMI, and Quality of Life.

  • Conduct longitudinal analyses for Sensitivity to Change to determine which digital features act as responsive markers that accurately reflect clinical improvement or decline over time.

  • Drive Phenotype Discovery by identifying if specific parameter configurations work better for certain patient subgroups to contribute to personalized digital monitoring.

  • Translate statistical findings into Biomedical Interpretation to answer if a change in a digital feature represents a true functional improvement in the patient’s daily life.

  • Apply your interpretative framework for Cross-Indication Extension to explore the overlap between metabolic and respiratory movement signatures if time permits.

Who you are

  • You are currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Biomedical Engineering, Health Data Science, Movement Science, Biostatistics, or a similar field.

  • Utilize strong Python skills to handle time-series data while applying an analytical mindset to understand the biological drivers behind metrics like R-squared.

  • Apply a solid statistical foundation in longitudinal modeling and sensitivity analysis, where experience with time series is considered a plus.

  • Communicate complex digital signal processing concepts to clinical stakeholders, with knowledge of obesity and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases being a plus.

  • You have professional fluency in English, both written and verbal.

Application Process

  • Please upload your CV, a motivation letter with your application, and a certificate of enrolment (if you are currently studying).

  • Non-EU/Non-EFTA citizens must attach a confirmation from the university to the application documents, stating that a mandatory internship is part of the education.

If you are passionate about collaboration and innovation, Roche is the place for you! Every role at Roche plays a part in making a difference in patients’ lives. Apply now and join us in making an impact!
