Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
The Position
The Structure-Function ML group within Prescient Design/AI4DD, CS CoE in Basel seeks exceptional graduate interns with a demonstrated research background in structural biology, computational protein design, or machine learning, a passion for independent research and technical problem-solving, and a proven ability to develop and implement ideas from research.
Our mission is to develop and apply cutting-edge methods in designing novel molecules. Researchers will primarily focus on de novo computational protein design and the application of deep generative models but should be broadly interested in physics-, chemistry-, and biology-informed methods at the interface of wet lab biology and computational modeling that can help drive and sharpen the research questions we study.
The Opportunity
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Participate in cutting-edge research in physics-based modeling and machine learning and applications to drug discovery, design, and development.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems in the life sciences e.g., structural and computational biology, computational chemistry, etc.
Who You Are
To succeed in this role, you have the following:
You graduated from a Master's program within the last year, or you are enrolled in a PhD program in Computational Biology, Computational Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
Strong understanding of protein structure and function
Previous experience in protein engineering or computational protein design
Strong publication record and experience contributing to research communities
Strong programming skills in Python and proficient with at least one deep learning framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
Additional Information
Start Date: June 2026
Length of Assignment: 6 months
Internship is only possible on a full-time basis
Application process
Your application should include the following documents:
An up-to-date CV and a motivation letter
A certificate of enrollment (if you are currently studying)
