About this role

In short

Your mission is to ensure On’s data is treated as a strategic asset. You will lead the definition and standardization of our core business metrics while simultaneously building a robust Data Governance framework that secures our data flows and system integrity. By establishing clear ownership, defining technical standards, and partnering with engineering teams to embed "governance as code," you will empower every team at On to move faster with data they can 100% trust.

Your mission

You will:

- Architect the Governance Framework: Define and implement a comprehensive enterprise data governance framework covering data categories, field standardizations, and requirements for data products.
- Lead Cross-System Field Standardization: Establish and govern how core entities, such as customer, product and dates, are defined and handled across all systems to ensure a single, unified view of the business.
- Lead KPI & Metric Governance: Act as the strategic lead for KPI standardization, ensuring our glossary, change control frameworks, and metric mapping are robust and scalable beyond current projects.
- Ensure Data Hygiene: Proactively manage data health by solving naming inconsistencies across systems and ensuring proper labeling at the source. Be the steward of On’s data catalog.
- Automate Governance: Explore and implement advanced tools—such as custom-built agents—to proactively crawl, flag, and correct inconsistencies in our data environment.
- Forge Strategic Alignment: Use your interpersonal skills to drive alignment when necessary, aligning different business and engineering teams on single, governed definitions.
- Anticipate & Trade-off: Foresee potential integration issues and be unafraid to make the necessary trade-offs to ensure long-term stability and system performance.

Your story

- You are a seasoned data governance professional with a track record of driving large-scale data quality improvements in technology-heavy, multinational organizations.
- Data Governance Leadership: You have 8+ years of experience designing and embedding scalable data governance and ownership frameworks at an enterprise level.
- Engineering Foundation: You bring a strong data engineering background with a deep understanding of how data flows effectively between complex, distributed systems.
- Business acumen: you understand how businesses drive impact through data, from source to decision, and have experience in driving better business impact through improved data governance.
- Metric Expertise: You possess detailed knowledge of how metrics are built and defined, coupled with the change management skills to lead "Change Control" processes.
- Data Catalogs: You have hands-on experience procuring and deploying modern data cataloging and SaaS-based governance tools (e.g. Atlan, Alation, OpenMetaData, or similar).
- Stakeholder Mastery: You are comfortable navigating complex organizational structures, partnering with senior leaders to solve strategic technology problems.
- Innovation Mindset: You don't just follow maps; you create them. You are experienced at using data-driven innovation to reduce risk and accelerate business activities.
