Da Nang is up-and-coming — coastal, cheap, with good food, friendly people, and a nomad scene still finding its shape. It feels like a city more than a beach town; the beach is long and flat but don't expect Thai or Brazilian-grade water (it can't quite keep up). What you do get: walkable riverfront, a clutch of decent coworking spaces, meals for under 5 CHF that match anything in the region, and a short scooter ride south to Hội An — old town, lantern streets, tailors. Worth flagging: a large Russian-speaking population in Da Nang in particular, which shapes the vibe of certain neighbourhoods and the nomad scene. Trade-offs: +6h to Zurich (same as Thailand), serious rainy season September to November (typhoons), and a smaller nomad scene than Chiang Mai's — by design, but fewer people to default-socialise with.
