RAV and remote work
If you draw Swiss unemployment benefits, the RAV asks every month for proof that you are looking for work: the Nachweis der persönlichen Arbeitsbemühungen, one line per application.
Not legal advice. Your RAV adviser sets your targets and decides what counts in your case.
The duty and the deadline
Art. 17 AVIG requires you to look for work, if necessary outside your previous occupation, and to be able to prove it. Art. 26 AVIV sets the deadline: the proof for a month is due by the 5th of the following month, or the next working day. Later efforts are not counted without an excusable reason.
The duty starts before the first day without work: SECO's directive for the RAVs, AVIG-Praxis ALE (B314), applies it from the notice period on, and for a fixed-term contract during at least the last three months.
In the eService the date an entry is saved counts, not the date it is sent (B324). Job-Room also submits the month on its own at 00:00 on the 6th. That is the tool, not the rule: the deadline stays the 5th, or the next working day.
How many applications a month
There is no federal number. SECO's leaflet speaks of the number agreed individually with your RAV; the directive (B316) says it depends on the labour market and on you: age, education, mobility, languages. The cantons publish their usual range:
- Zurich: as a rule 10 to 12 a month.
- Bern: as a rule at least eight a month, already during the notice period.
- Zug: as a rule at least 8 to 12 a month, two to three a week.
What counts, and what does not
Quality counts, not only quantity (B315). The directive's examples of what falls short:
- Relying only on a placement agency.
- Letters too superficial to be a serious application.
- Salary demands out of line with the market and your qualifications.
Applications without a concrete vacancy, Blindbewerbungen, can only supplement the others (SECO Info-Service). The duty does not pause while applications are pending or during interim work (B317). Too little can suspend benefits, for up to 60 days per case depending on fault (Art. 30 AVIG).
Where remote roles fit
The federal texts do not mention remote work. They ask for targeted, proper applications for suitable work (zumutbare Arbeit), and a remote role at a Swiss employer fits that wording like any other. Distance appears only in the suitability test of Art. 16 AVIG: a job more than two hours away each way is, with exceptions, not work you have to accept. The texts are silent on employers abroad: ask your adviser before the month closes, and see working from abroad.
What Job-Room asks per application
As the form stood in Job-Room on 30 September 2026, each application is entered on its own:
- When and how: the date, and Elektronisch, Brieflich, Persönlich or Telefonisch.
- Where: Unternehmen, Strasse and number, Postfach-Nr., Land (preset to Schweiz), PLZ / Ort, Kontaktperson, E-Mail, Telefonnummer.
- Which role: Stellenbezeichnung and Link zum Online-Formular, the employer's online application form.
- RAV assignment (Nein or Ja) and Arbeitspensum (Vollzeit or Teilzeit).
- Result: a separate tick for Vorstellungsgespräch, and one of Noch offen, Anstellung or Absage. Absage requires a reason, the Absagegrund, up to 250 characters; a short one is enough.
Required fields, by how you applied:
- Always: date, method, Unternehmen, PLZ / Ort, Stellenbezeichnung, RAV assignment, Arbeitspensum and result.
- Elektronisch: also E-Mail.
- Brieflich: also the postal address, Strasse or Postfach-Nr.; either is enough.
- Persönlich: also the postal address and Kontaktperson.
- Telefonisch: also the postal address, Kontaktperson and Telefonnummer.
Unternehmen, Kontaktperson, E-Mail and Stellenbezeichnung take up to 100 characters each. A paper version of the form exists. Keep copies of your applications and of the rejections; the paper form says the RAV can ask for them.
How the Remotli tracker maps to it
The saved-roles page of a free Remotli account follows that form. It is a record, not a submission: Remotli never sends anything to the RAV, and the entry in Job-Room is still yours to make.
- Roles found on Remotli. Save a role and set its status as it moves: applied, interview, offer, rejected. Company, title, link and full or part time come from the listing; the date and method go on the same row.
- Applications made elsewhere. Add them by hand, so the month is complete.
- Details for the RAV form. The form's address and contact fields and the RAV assignment are optional on every row. Blank stays blank, except the country of an application made elsewhere, which reads Schweiz; if the employer is abroad, check the country. The interview box ticks itself when the status moves to interview and stays ticked after an offer or a rejection, because the form asks for the interview apart from the result.
- The reason for a rejection. A field that exists only on a rejected row, up to 250 characters; a short note or N/A is enough. Changing the status to anything else clears it.
- For the RAV form, still missing. Each application names, by the form's labels, the required fields it does not hold yet for the way you applied. The row saves with gaps; the line is a reminder, not a check.
- Copy as RAV entry. A button per application copies its fields with the form's labels and in its order, ready to paste into Job-Room.
- Export your applications (CSV). For this month, last month or everything, with the form's columns and values, the interview in its own column and the Absagegrund after the result. Months follow the date you applied. Saved roles and withdrawn applications stay out.
