We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to lead the designand development of a critical cloud-native backend system as part of a
strategic initiative to modernise a large-scale legacy application.
YOUR CHALLENGE
The project involves a complete re-architecture using modern Java
technologies, primarily Spring Boot, and will operate in a high-
throughput, distributed environment on the cloud. This role offers the
opportunity to build scalable, resilient services from the ground up —
leveraging cutting-edge practices including AI-assisted development
tools to accelerate delivery without compromising quality. The ideal
candidate is a technical leader with deep expertise in enterprise-grade
Java backends, cloud platforms, and performance optimisation, who
thrives in complex transformation programmes.
YOUR PROFILE
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in developing server-side Java applications, preferably within financial or other regulated high-performance domains.
• Deep proficiency in Java 21+ and Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, Spring Cloud)
• Experience with any workflow framework languages, such as TIBCO StreamBase and/or Spotfire, Flowable or Camunda with BPMN
• Expertise in designing for high throughput and low latency, applying asynchronous processing and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Hands-on experience building and operating cloud-native microservices on AWS, Azure, or GCP — including containers (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), service mesh, and cloud
storage/services
• Proficient in instrumenting applications for observability using Micrometer and OpenTelemetry, including metrics collection (latency, error rates, throughput), distributed tracing across
service boundaries, and contextual logging to enable proactive monitoring and rapid incident diagnosis in production environments
• Experience refactoring or migrating monolithic systems to microservice architectures
• Practical exposure to AI-assisted development workflows and familiarity with integrating generative AI tools into IDEs and code reviews
• Experience working within Markets and/or Trading business domain
• Experience securing APIs and services using OAuth2, JWT, TLS, and identity providers
• Experience with caching mechanisms such as Redis or Caffeine for improving performance and reducing database load in high-throughput scenarios
• Hands-on experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and gRPC services, including protocol buffer definition, bidirectional streaming, and integration in a polyglot microservices environment
• Strong problem-solving mindset with ability to analyse complex systems and propose effective engineering solutions.
• Excellent communication skills – capable of articulating technical trade-offs to both peers and stakeholders.
• Proactive collaborator comfortable working in agile, cross-functional teams; experienced in mentoring junior engineers.
• Ownership-driven attitude with commitment to delivering robust, well-tested software on schedule
• English: Business fluent, native language (C1/2)
